Carr R. & Harrington M. Effective Communication Though Visual Design: Tables and Charts. Strategy Institute, 2011.
The authors, researchers from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Mississippi, describe the importance of graphics and design and how they are effective in presenting information. The arguments are well supported by organizing the data using tables and charts. However, using table and chart selections that cannot thoroughly present data and pattern in effective way, as well as 3-D graphs, patterned fills, and excess decorations, are not recommended. Making good color decisions such as using Analogous color create harmony, but in contrast, complementary combination colors create vibrations that distract and makes hard to look. Table and chart choices and selection of colors are important in effectively delivering information to the audience. Eliminating confusion by not using complicated visuals and making visuals simpler deliver accurate and effective communication.
